Building an Online Community for Government
Disgover.com wanted to create a secure online community that would make collaboration easier between the more than 70 million professionals involved in government and public sector services. Sage responded by designing a system where users can easily manage their profiles and contacts, create and join public and private groups, and access assorted community-owned libraries for downloadable content. Sage supported this project from initial concept to completed website, including a comprehensive marketing and PR rollout.

Sage responded by designing a system where users can easily: manage their profiles and contacts; create and join public and private groups; and access assorted community-owned libraries for downloadable content.
By connecting government professionals with their colleagues, government partners, and social groups in a single knowledge sharing and learning community, Disgover.com hoped to provide access to information that would improve their performance, enhance their careers, and enrich their lives.
Using our expertise within the social networking space, Sage reviewed existing popular social media sites and functionality as well as the products of competing sites in the government space. With this research in mind, Sage proposed a list of core capabilities and designed the Disgover.com system to be intuitive and easy to use, in order to attract and keep the site’s enormous potential user base.
The resulting system allows users to easily manage their profiles and contacts, create and join public and private groups, and access community-owned libraries for downloadable content.
The Sage team also designed the site architecture, screens, and various interfaces, and worked closely with the client to determine new and/or improved ways for each user to access and manage their Disgover.com online presence. One new function proposed and implemented by Sage was the Ask an Expert tool that gives members a way to initiate public and/or private discussions with experts in a given field, and rate both the experts and their responses once a discussion is completed.
Sage and the Disgover.com team also developed a targeted recommendation engine that suggests content to users based on their profile parameters, and created the custom help system that guides users throughout the Disgover.com platform.
Today, Disgover.com provides an online, interactive community that allows defense, federal, state, local public employees, first responders, public service members, and government service providers to share personal, career, and professional information.
The Disgover.com platform has already been adopted by a number of government agencies and affiliates, including the Veterans Administration, the USDA Graduate School, and Arlington County. In fact, the Veterans Administration uses Disgover.com as a principle communication medium for the agency’s Director and his 7,000+ IT professionals.
Users regularly complement the platform’s design, ease of use, and advanced functionality compared to similar offerings in the government sphere, and Sage is currently developing a comprehensive marketing and PR campaign in anticipation of the site’s full roll-out, scheduled for Summer 2010.Hide Full Case Study
