Employee Spotlight: Val Keefer
What are your duties in a typical day here at Sage?
As a PR Account Coordinator, my typical day always looks different – which I like! More of my consistent priorities include coverage scanning, social media drafting, and media pitching.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the AC role?
Take time to focus on the parts of your job that really make you happy. It won’t be everything, but when you put energy into projects you care about, the results and satisfaction will carry over into all of your other work.
What is your favorite way to spend Flex Friday? (Sagers work an extra 30 minutes everyday to have half days every other Friday!)
Going on a hike. Nothing’s better than exploring a trail without heavy weekend foot traffic.
What is the most exciting thing you’re working on right now?
I was just recently appointed to help oversee Sage PR’s internship program! As a former intern myself, getting to work with people who are in the same boat as I once was is very fun and rewarding.
Who inspires you?
What quote do you live by?
“You’re fine. Just suck it up and keep going.” – My parents
Where is your favorite place to travel?
I’ve been so fortunate to travel all over the country, but I’d say my favorite place to go is California, specifically Yosemite National Park. It’s absolutely breathtaking.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
1. Take a month tour across Australia, New Zealand and Fiji
2. Raft down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon
3. Go ice climbing in Glacier National Park (before it melts)
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned while at Sage?
All that stuff people tell you about working in teams is true. Every group project and every sports team I’ve been on has prepared me for Sage’s collaborative work environment. Whether you’re quiet or independent, you will rely on the help and support of your teammates and colleagues, just as they rely on your help and support too. It’s been a challenge for me, but it’s taught me more than I could have imagined. I think it’s made me a better person too!
