Employee Spotlight: Kerry Ryan

Kerry Ryan is an accounting assistant and HR coordinator at Sage Communications.

What are your duties in a typical day here at Sage?

Everyday is different, which I like! I assist with general accounting functions, primarily accounts payable, and process expense reports/timesheets. On the HR end, I support the recruitment process by posting jobs, communicating with candidates, and scheduling interviews. And I have the enjoyable task of picking out desserts for the monthly employee birthday celebration.

What is the most exciting thing you’re working on right now?

When most people think of accounting they don’t usually associate it with exciting, but after working in accounting for the past few months I think its reputation of being monotonous is a myth! Constantly I am learning new things, most recently I prepared tax forms for the first time.

Who inspires you?

For me, inspiration comes from the people I choose to surround myself with. They are my parents, brother, grandfather, friends and acquaintances. I try to apply their inspiring qualities of dedication to family, work ethic, and humor to my life everyday.

What quote do you live by?

“Don’t settle. Don’t finish bad books. If you don’t like the menu, leave the restaurant. If you’re not on the right path, get off.”

Where is your favorite place to travel?

The west coast, particularly Oregon & Vancouver. I also love the perfect temperature of San Diego.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

·       Banff National Park

·       Scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef

·       Attend a Buffalo Bills Super Bowl (based on history this one might take awhile)

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned while at Sage?

Surround yourself with a team who work together toward common goals. I’m fortunate to work with a team that fosters an environment of sharing knowledge and experiences, I believe this has helped me learn new skills that I can use for the rest of my career.
