Employee Spotlight: Kristen Thoman

What are your duties in a typical day here at Sage?

My job is to manage the internal operations of our design team. That includes managing workflow and ensuring quality through every aspect of the design process.  I am also very hands on and love working on branding projects, out-of-the-box direct mail campaigns and unique annual reports. I also spend a good portion of my day trying to figure out how to keep my air plant alive. Although it’s coined “unkillable,” my brown thumb will find a way.

What is the most exciting thing you’re working on right now?

I just wrapped up an annual report for OPIC that included a slider with a die-cut window and a 3D pop up box. I’m also working on a cool corporate overview report for Daikin. I’m so thankful for clients that allow me the creative freedom to recommend and implement unique printing techniques that really give a piece that wow factor!

Who inspires you?

Inspiration is everywhere but I do happen to find a great deal of inspiration in my kids (4 and 2 years old) who inspire me to keep life fun and adventurous.

What quote do you live by?

You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.
– Maya Angelou

Where is your favorite place to travel?

I have traveled all over Europe but honestly, I’m the happiest sitting on a beach with a drink in my hand!

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

Alaskan cruise

Kenyan safari

Disney World with my kiddos

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned while at Sage?

I’ve learned the importance of thinking like a problem solver rather than an artist. It’s critical to ask the client pointed questions at the start of a project and focus on finding the right design solution to meet their specific goals.
