What are your duties in a typical day here at Sage?
As a business development professional at Sage, I start my day reading the news, marketing related articles and Linkedin posts. I then post some of these relevant articles on Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter for my followers. I rely on my calendar to plan the week for meetings, calls and networking events. I prefer to be out of the office meeting people one-on-one to build relationships.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in a business development role?
Building relationships with people is the most important aspect of my job. Business development is all about understanding people’s needs and challenges. Once you understand their marketing communications challenges, you can develop solutions with creative ideas.
What is your favorite way to spend Flex Friday? (Sagers work an extra 30 minutes every day to have half days every other Friday!)
I like to travel, eat, or go see a movie. Sometimes, I catch the bus or train to New York City to see an opera at The Met, go to my favorite museum, MoMa, or try a new restaurant.
What is the most exciting thing you’re working on right now?
We are promoting Population Association of America’s annual meeting in Denver. We have an excellent public affairs team at Sage and being able to utilize their talent to help our client is very exciting.
Who inspires you?
Professionally, the Sage team! We have so many talented and intelligent people on our team. Everyone has different strengths coming from a wealth of personal and professional experiences. Personally, my father! He is a poet and a scholar. Without his dream to bring the family to America, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to live, study and work in United States.
What quote do you live by?
I’ve put this quote together from my own experience. “Create your own sunshine with a grateful heart and the rest will follow.”
Where is your favorite place to travel?
Italy! I love their culture, language, food, fashion, museums, music and people. I was fortunate to live there for about a year and half and travel all over Europe.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
Safari in Africa, visit New Zealand to see where they filmed the Lord of the Rings movies, and find a little cottage in Portugal/France/Italy by the sea to write my books.
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned while at Sage?
Bring value to our clients. Sage has a service-oriented mentality.
