CMS Quality improvement PROGRAM
ANNUAL Report

Created by statute in 1982, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Program is one of the largest federal programs dedicated to improving health quality at the community level. CMS administers the QIO Program through a national network of regional contractors known as QIOs. By law, the mission of the QIO Program is to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, economy, and quality of services delivered to Medicare beneficiaries. In 2006, the Program drew public scrutiny as a result of an Institute of Medicine (IoM) report that questioned its value. From 2009 through 2019, Sage worked as both a prime and subcontractor to improve perceptions of the QIO Program brand, and to serve as the hub of all national-level communications to both internal and external audiences.

Among the ongoing tasks for the BPA was to create its annual report. In 2016, Sage was tasked to bring its annual report from print to a website format. Significant savings occurred via cost avoidance since the report was no longer printed. Also, the content became more engaging because multimedia content was added from conferences, messages from senior administrators and success stories. Simply designed, Section 508 versions of the annual report were created as well that were housed on the CMS QIO program website.

Services included: creative concept development, design, mechanical production, Section 508 Compliance, content review / editing, proofreading, project management.
